Launched in 1935, the Mercedes 170 V was a remarkable success. More than 100,000 vehicles of all types—sedans, coupes, and commercial vehicles—left the Mercedes-Benz factory in Stuttgart by 1952, and the 170 V model was gradually developed into the Mercedes 170 VA. The 170 D was equipped with the Mercedes diesel engine. The delivery van was developed from 1935 on the chassis of the Mercedes 170 V.
